Confedarados Win!

Tonight my intramural basketball team improved our season record to 3-0 after a dramatic 37-36 come from behind win! We had already clinched a spot in the playoffs but this win will secure a higher seeding going into our last regular season game next week. Yours truly had 14 pts while shooting 4 for 7 in three point land, so I was happy with my offensive performance. The hero was Wayne Copeland who hit a big lay up with 12 seconds left to give us the win! We ride!

In other news today, my interview went pretty well today. Which I credit my good interview to the bow tie sported, which got many compliments through the day. I had a mid-term in my civil war class, and I am not really sure how I feel about it. It was not an easy test but I guess we will see how I did in the days to come.

My verse of the day is James 3:13,

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Not much planned here, going bowling tonight and hitting up my favorite local spot City Cafe. And ‘Bama has another big game this weekend. Have a good one y’all!

State Sweep!

Tonight the University that I attend swept out arch rival for the season, after 2 weeks ago beating their gymnastics team for the 101st time in a row. Almost makes up for the loss last November. There is a lot of hatred between the two schools, the funny thing is most of my best friends from home either pull for or go to the rival school. Makes for interesting talks when we get to hang out over the breaks.

My school is trying to make it to the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time in over 5 years. We are 19-8 (11-2), undefeated at home, and won our division in the conference. It’s exciting to actually have a basketball team to cheer for and having the gym packed out every night.

We played pretty terrible tonight, shooting 26% from the field and turning the ball over 18 times. We were down the whole night, as many as 14 at one point. When it mattered though junior star JaMychal Green tipped in the winning basket with .3 seconds on the clock. This keeps our tournament dreams alive, thank goodness.

The rest of my day was real chill, not much happened which was nice for a change. Tomorrow my intramural basketball team looks to improve to 3-0 and I have a mid-term. Also I have a big interview tomorrow, needless to say it will be a busy day! So say a prayer for me and I will for you! God bless and roll tide!

Peace (John 14:27)

Peace is something I have struggled with for a very long time, I can say it has been probably during my whole college tenure thus far. Peace is something we all want, but something only a few seem to have. I can say of this day though, I have peace about a lot of things for the first time in a long time and I am very happy about that.

I know for myself and many of you, we have searched for peace in many things. Work, relationships, and the list goes on; I know I was in that boat. Essentially, we searched for peace here on the earth. Which I can tell you from my own experience will not give you peace, the only thing that will is accepting the Will of God and living for Christ Jesus. For years, I chased my dreams, and not those of the Lord. Christ says

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

-John 14:27

In a nutshell, the only peace we can find is in Christ. He has a plan for each of us, and when we accept it we will experience that. I have finally come to the point in my walk that I am okay with the fact that the things I desire, may not be what the Lord has planned. I know the biggest things I fear in life is where will I work? Who/will I marry? Where am I going to call home? Very stressful, right? Hard to have peace, but now that I have accepted that all those things will happen according to his divine plan as long as I submit myself to Him, I have peace.

For the first time I feel like a load is off of me, and I am happy. I haven’t been able to say that in a while. Its funny when it hits you too, a lot of the stress came off of me Sunday. The rest today on the way home from class, rocking out to some Francesca Battistelli on the Lurleen Wallace Bridge.

I can’t say I will not stress ever again, heck I mean I do have a mid-term on Thursday! But just having peace about the future and present, and knowing I am forgiven for the past, well it has made me a happy individual. And I am very glad I can say that!

My Goal Here with this Bloggy Thingy

Hello readers and welcome to my blog. I am new to this whole “blogging” experience, so bear with me while I work out the kinks. This being my first blog, I figured I would introduce myself and discuss the purpose for this blog.

Let’s start with the generic intro. My name obviously is Jared Cornutt, and I am the grand age of 20. I am junior at The University of Alabama, where I major in social sciences and history. I am what one would call sarcastic, so don’t get mad at me on here. You can credit that to many hours of watching Seinfeld and The Office. That’s all you really need to know about me, if you actually read this blog then you will learn more about who I really am.

I titled the blog as You Learn As You Go and it is subject to change. I gave it that name because that’s where I am in life right now, learning as I am going. I have made some pretty big decisions lately, but have a few more to make. I will blog about things that are going on in life, that I find ridiculous or funny, and anything else that comes my way. I love sports so expect a lot of that.

Also expect a good deal about my faith, it is something I am very proud of and will share. How it is working in my life and in others as well. Some days I may take a scripture and look and discuss it and other days I may just talk about what I am feeling compelled to talk about in my walk.

Don’t expect a blog everyday, I know you won’t look everyday and I am lazy. But I do love my friends and strangers input. I know blogging is mainly a way to express things for yourself. Though if what I am going through can speak to someone it will all be worth it, or maybe if I can make you laugh it will be worth it too.

Well that is all for this blog, have a great one y’all!
